Trauma Therapy in Calgary: Complex PTSD, Childhood Trauma, and Accelerated Resolution Therapy
Trauma isn't always one big, obvious event. Sometimes it's years of living in an environment that didn't feel emotionally or physically safe, or relationships where you learned to stay small, stay quiet, or keep everyone else okay. You may not even think of it as trauma. You may just know that some old patterns, or some memories that won't quiet down, keep running your life.
How it can show up
- Always being "the helper" or the one who has it together
- Anxiety, people-pleasing, or feeling untethered
- Strong reactions that surprise you
- Difficulty trusting, relaxing, or feeling safe in relationships
- Feeling stuck in the past even though you want to move on
Trauma and grief are connected
When we've been through something painful, we often lose things too: safety, trust, a childhood we needed, or a sense of who we are. Part of healing is grieving that. A lot of my work is helping people understand how they've been grieving throughout their lives without realizing it.
Complex PTSD and childhood trauma
I work a lot with complex PTSD and childhood trauma. Complex PTSD is a term used for the lasting impact of living for a long time in an environment that wasn't emotionally or physically safe. Because it happens over time, often in childhood, it can shape how we see ourselves, how we connect with others, and how safe we feel in our own bodies, well into adulthood. You don't need a label to begin therapy, and we can talk about whether this language fits your experience.
Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART)
I'm trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy, a type of therapy that uses eye movements to help "turn down the volume" of flashbacks and other symptoms that can come with trauma. Everyone's experience is different, and we'll talk about whether ART is a good fit for you.
My approach
I work at your pace and never push you to go somewhere you're not ready to go. Together we build understanding of your patterns, strengthen what's already working, and keep our focus on how you want to live now.
Who I work with
Adults 18 and over who are moving through life transitions and finding that old wounds get in the way, including people carrying the effects of childhood trauma or long-term unsafe environments.
