Social Work

I’m Amie, and I’m glad you’re here! I am a therapist, but I am also a Registered Social Worker, and because of that, I see you a bit differently. I don’t just look at you in isolation; I see you in the context of your whole world—your relationships, your job, your childhood, and the systems you navigate every day. With 13 years of experience in social work, spanning from grassroots community support to the high-stakes environment of the Children’s Hospital Emergency Department, I have learned that at our core, we all want the exact same things: connection, community, and to feel deeply seen, held, and understood.

In my practice, I work with individuals and couples navigating the heavy weights of trauma recovery, childhood wounds, perfectionism, and deep-seated grief. I practice from an attachment-based, person-in-environment perspective, meaning we have to truly understand you and the unique story of your life. Together, we will look honestly at the coping patterns that once protected you, building the insight and steadiness needed to integrate your past experiences so they stop running your present. My style centers on compassion and self-trust, but that doesn’t mean I won’t gently challenge you when you need it. I don’t offer stuffy head-nods or blank stares; I offer a collaborative, values-led space where you can finally stop struggling against the current and find your footing.

Outside of the therapy room, I am a human walking my own complex stories, too. When I am resting, you can usually find me reading science fiction and fantasy—some of my absolute favorites are by Becky Chambers, J.R.R Tolkien, Blake Crouch and I firmly believe A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle is mandatory reading for everyone. My love for these stories connects right back to my work: they show us that systems matter, darkness is real, and the struggle to protect our humanity is deeply personal. I am so glad you found your way to this space. At the end of the day, getting to connect and do this work together is a rare, beautiful thing in this universe.

Thank you for being here, and be gentle with yourself while you find your way.

Why Two Rivers?

The name Two Rivers was inspired by the places I’ve called home—from the confluence of the Bow and Elbow in Calgary to the meeting of the North and South Thompson rivers in Kamloops. As I’ve sat with this name, it has come to represent the duality we all carry: the paved path built by our ancestors and expectations, and the wild river of who we actually are. Most of us live on that paved road because it feels certain, even if it doesn't feel right. Therapy is the brave choice to step off the street and chart a new current. My role is to be your guide through that unknown territory, helping you build a new way forward until it finally feels like home.

A steady place to find your footing.

If safety hasn’t always been a given for you, please know we will go slow. There is no rushed timeline here. You don’t have to arrive with automatic trust in the process or in me; we will build that as we go. It’s an honor to walk with you while you navigate your way forward.
